DESCRIPTION:Wafa House’s First Annual Benefit\, “Partnering Against Domestic Violence”. \nWhat does Partnering with us Against Domestic Violence mean?\nWe believe the only way to end domestic violence is to bring awareness and gather community members to fight against the barriers that victims face\, as well as provide support; i.e. for us to work together. All proceeds will contribute 100% as donations that will go straight towards survivor support services. \nWhat to expect at our upcoming benefit?\nWe are excited to announce Rowaida Abdelaziz\, as our honorary guest speaker. For our entertainment\, we are excited to have Al Dal’ouna Dabke dance group perform a traditional middle eastern dance. You can also expect a silent and live auction\, raffle prizes\, local vendors who will be selling their products\, a henna artist\, cocktail hour and unlimited hot and cold buffets\, and so much more! \nWhat does “Passport Style” event mean?\nThis event is unique in that it is a “passport style” event. Our goal for this event is to make it engaging and interactive. Attendees will “travel through a survivor’s shoes” to fully understand the types of abuse and barriers survivors face. All attendees will be given a passport\, and will receive a stamp as they visit each table\, encouraging them to explore each partner and vendor. Community partners will be able to host educational tables to bring awareness to these barriers and the services available for survivors. We will also have a section in the “passport”\, where we will list all of the vendors and they can check off each vendor’s table that they visit. This will encourage attendees to visit all educational and small business tables at the event. Once they have gotten all the stamps\, they will be entered to win a prize!

DESCRIPTION:Heart of Hanna & Tier1Recovery are responding to the Crisis amongst our Paterson community caregivers. Many of us ‘suffer in silos’ bearing the brunt of our needs and the needs of those we care for and serve. The need for self-care is of paramount importance. It’s ok not to be ok. But it’s not ok to suffer in isolation and not reach out for help. In recent weeks we have witnessed intense turmoil with the shooting of Najee Seabrooks. Questions arose as to why he wasn’t able to get help for his crisis? Why didn’t anyone notice the signs and symptoms? This happens all the time because the community wants caregivers to be SUPER HEROES and we buy into that myth. \nThis symposium is for caregivers\, faith-based leaders\, community leaders and parents.
